Tasting Notes: This full-bodied wine has rich flavors of black cherry, plum and spice which become more pronounced when aromas of red fruit, pepper and sweet earth are unveiled. With firm mouth-coating tannins and a slight minerality, this wine has a nice, well-rounded finish. Consider this an ideal food wine; enjoy with barbequed fare or grilled veggies. Drink now or cellar for the next 6-10 years.
Vinification: The grapes were cold soaked and then fermented on the skins. After pressing, the wine was racked to French oak and aged for 16 months before bottling.
Varietal: Lagrein is a little known red wine varietal native to Italy’s Trentino - Alto Adige region. Relatively rare, even in Italy, in California it is almost non-existent: fewer than 200 producing acres are currently planted. Generally, Lagrein produces darkly colored red wines which with dark fruit flavors and medium body.
